Petrus, Pomerol 2011

A Petrus with poise and finesse. Certainly not a blockbuster although deceptive tannic frame under the silky texture. Fresh and energetic on the palate. Plenty of juicy fruit harvested at a perfect pitch. Drink 2022-2040. (18.5 points)

 

Vieux Chateau Certan, Pomerol 2011

The 'grand retour' of Cabernet Franc with 29% in the blend. Less opulence than 2009 and 2010 but this is a wine that really sings. It has a vital, floral, dark fruit nose, a silky texture and tannins. Succulent, fresh and long. A classic VCC. The Right Bank wine of the vintage. Drink 2020-2040. (19 points)

 

Chateau l'Eglise-Clinet, Pomerol 2011

Two samples: the first a touch oxidised and marked by oak; the second revealed the power, energy and density of this wine. A firm tannic frame underpins layers of rich, dark fruit. Possibly a 5-star wine down the line. Drink 2020-2040. (18 points)

 

Chateau l'Evangile, Pomerol 2011

Less power and opulence than we've seen in the last three vintages. Fine, fresh and classic in style with well extracted juicy fruit. Balanced and harmonious. Drink 2020-2035. (17.5 points)

 

Chateau la Fleur Petrus, Pomerol 2011

Difficult to follow the excellent 2010 but remains true to style. Medium-bodied, fine, fresh and elegant with silky texture and tannins. Drink 2018-2028. (17 points)

 

Le Pin, Pomerol 2011

Restrained and elegant in style. Great purity of fruit, a silky texture and tannins and a very long finish. Somewhat in the mould of the 2006 and 2008? Drink 2020-2030. (17.5 points)

 

Chateau la Conseillante, Pomerol 2011

Gentle extraction (advised by new consultant, ex-JP Moueix winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet). Accent on the fruit. Less volume than 2009 and 2010 but good length and balance. Drink 2018-2030. (17 points)

 

Clos l'Eglise, Pomerol 2011

Dark and intense. Oak a touch intrusive but pure fruit behind. Firm, fresh and structured with a good long finish. Definite ageing potential. Drink 2018-2030. (16.5 points)

 

Chateau Petit Village, Pomerol 2011

Serious wine that builds on the palate. Fragrant floral, violet notes. Firm, long and structured, offering greater depth and consistency than in the past. Drink 2018-2030. (16.5 points)

 

Chateau Nenin, Pomerol 2011

Stricter and more Médocain in style than the opulent 2009. 17% press wine is one of the reasons. It has plenty of lift, length and freshness. Drink 2018-2030. (16.5 points)

 

Chateau Clinet, Pomerol 2011

Deep purple-crimson colour. Tight, firm and intense. Lots of chocolatey, liqueur de cassis extract. Finishes a little tough and drying. Drink 2018-2028. (16.5 points)

 

Chateau Vieux Maillet, Pomerol 2011

Soft, round and elegant. Lighter but fine in style. Drink 2015-2023. (15 points)

 

Duo de Conseillante, Pomerol 2011

Fragrant, fruity. Zip of acidity keeps it fresh. Pleasant, early drinking wine. Drink 2014-2020. (15 points)

 

Chateau Mazeyres, Pomerol 2011

Light but fine and balanced. Energy to the fruit. Corresponds to the vintage and terroir. Drink 2016-2023. (15 points)

 

Chateau Feytit-Clinet, Pomerol 2011

Deep crimson hue. Sweet and ripe on the palate yet oak is a touch invading. Good fruit and intensity and the finish is firm and dry. Drink 2018-2025. (16 points)

 

Chateau Gazin, Pomerol 2011

Tight, intense and fleshy but just a hint of green? Structured but rather chewy, robust tannins. Needs time to settle. Drink 2018-2028. (16 points)

 

Chateau la Croix de Gay, Pomerol 2011

Ripe and fresh with vibrancy to the fruit. Firmly structured with good length. Promising. Drink 2017-2026. (16 points)

 

La Petite Eglise, Pomerol 2011

Fragrant red fruit nose and palate. Fine grained tannins and good length. As usual lighter and less powerful than big brother l'Eglise-Clinet. Drink 2016-2025. (16 points)

 

Chateau la Pointe, Pomerol 2011

Soft, supple and understated. Light, fine structure. In tune with the vintage. Drink 2015-2022. (15.5 points)

 

Chateau Rouget, Pomerol 2011

Fairly lush and ripe on the nose and palate. Chocolatey oak is apparent and it has a lightly drying finish. Drink 2016-2025. (15.5 points)

 

Chateau la Croix du Casse, Pomerol 2011

Supple, expressive, early drinking wine with juicy fruit and a light but ripe, tannic frame. Drink 2016-2023. (15 points)

 

Fugue de Nenin, Pomerol 2011

Fragrant and fruit driven. Really attractive wine for early drinking. Clean, fresh finish. Drink 2015-2023. (15.5 points)

 

Chateau Beauregard, Pomerol 2011

Elegant, fresh, medium-bodied wine. Relatively easy and lightly structured with fine, grainy tannins. Drink 2017-2026. (15.5 points)

 

Chateau Moulinet, Pomerol 2011

Round and supple with sweet fruit. It's finishes on the dry side. Drink 2016-2022. (14.5 points)
